According to news reports on 24 August 2010 in Beijing, road construction that won’t be completed until the middle of next month has caused a 60-mile (100 km) traffic jam. On 24 August, the traffic had been jammed for 10 days. At one point the cars were moving about half a mile (800 mtres) each day. The traffic jam on the Beijing-Zhangjiakou highway started on 14 August after major roadworks began.
