The EU has opened an inquiry on IBM over two suspect cases of abuse of its dominant position within the mainframe. the issue concerns computerized systems used by companies and institutions to save and process large quantities of data. The first case was the result of a report from competitors T3 and Turbo Hercules who accused IBM of linking mainframe applications to its mainframe operational system. The second instead was opened by the EU Commission and concerns IBM’s alleged discriminatory behaviour regards to competitors providing mainframe maintenance services. The Commission has made it known it has no evidence of IBM’s violations but that it intends to investigate the two suspicious cases involving abuse of a dominant positions.
