FRENCH GOVERNMENT APPROVES PENSIONS REFORMS
The French government has approved the pensions reforms. The proposal, drawn up by Labour Minister, Eric Woerth, provides for an increase in the pensionable age from 60 to 62 years. After the cabinet okay the measure will need the approval of parliament. The House should vote on it in September, after which it will go to the Senate. President Nicolas Sarkozy hopes that the new law will come into effect by the end of October.
