FRENCH POLICE BEGIN CLEARING OF ILLEGAL ROMA ENCAMPMENTS

French authorities have commenced dismantling illegal nomadic Roma encampments in the town of Saint-Etienne. The government has approved measures to gradually clear all illegal camps over the course of 3 months; the decision comes in the wake of riots in central France’s town of Saint-Agnian, where close to fifty ethnic Roma wreaked havoc in protest at the police killing of a 22-year-old burglar.
