IRAQ: TROOPS NOW 56,000, AFTER WITHDRAWAL OF LAST BRIGADE
The US have withdrawn their last brigade from Iraq, leaving 56000 troops now in the country. Obama’s intermediate goal is that of bringing back home 6000 soldiers by 31st August, when the combat mission, started on 19 March 2003, will be terminated. The last soldiers will remain until the end of 2011 only to “support and train” Afghan militaries. .
