Nokia Siemens has bought the Motorola wireless network infrastructure for 1.2 billion dollars. The mobile phone company is thus aiming to expand into the North American market and to become number two worldwide, on the heels of market leader Ericsson and keeping up with China’s Huawei. The 1.2 billion dollar price is 0.32 times Motorola’s ‘mobile gear’ turnover. Nokia Siemens tried twice before to penetrate the USA market buying Canada’s Nortel, but without success.
