PAKISTAN: HUMANITARIAN CATASTROPHE, UN ENVOY ARRIVES

A UN special envoy has arrived in Pakistan to coordinate the humanitarian emergency caused by the floods. So far, 1,500 people are known to have died in the areas devastated by flooding, especially in the North East and centre of the country.The UN World Food Programme says “there is an urgent need for food. 80 percent of food reserves have been destroyed in the flooding, which has also caused enormous damage to infrastructures, roads and bridges”.
