In Moscow, the mortality rate has doubled in the last few days due to the heat wave and the smoke from wildfires. The fear, which has been lurking for days, was confirmed by Andrei Seltsovski, the Administration’s Health Department Chief. “In the last few days, the mortality rate has doubled in Moscow”, Seltsovski said. The official also added that the Russian capital’s morgues – which would normally record between 360-380 deaths a day, currently up to almost 700 – are practically all full-up.
