TENNIS: KUZNETSOVA WINS MERCURY OPEN IN SAN DIEGO

Svetlana Kuznetsova has won the “Mercury Insurance Open”, a hardcourt WTA event. In the final, the Russian tennis player beat Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska 6-4 6-7 (7) 6-3 to claim the 13th title of her career (including two Slams: Roland Garros 2009 and US Open 2004) in 31 finals as well as the prize money of $700,000. Kuznetsova beat Italy’s Flavia Pennetta 6-4, 6-0 in the semi-finals. The 25-year-old from St. Petersburg had not won a tournament since Roland Garros 2009.
