New US regulations might jeopardize offshore oil drilling. Among the laws introduced after the Gulf of Mexico leak, one demands a bigger blowout preventer (a device used to increase the well safety during its drilling). Unfortunately, many contractors in this field, especially those who operate with older platforms, might not be able to afford such an improvement.
