Telefono Rosa reports that 80% of violence against women in 2009 took place within a sexual relationship. The women’s helpline explains that only one attack out of 100 was the work of an unknown assailant. The research used a sample of 1782 cases. Of these 1503 were Italian citizens and 278 were foreigners. Women between 35 and 44 years of age were most likely to be subject to violence (32%), married women (50%), mothers (79%), those with a high school diploma (53%) and those in work (21%).
