General Stanley McChrystal is retiring. The date has not been fixed yet for his return to civilian life after leading the foreign contingent in Afghanistan. His decision was expected after being sacked for his remarks against the US president, Barack Obama, his government and civilian administration, in an interview with Michael Hasting, a journalist from Rolling Stone magazine.

McChrystal said his remarks were made off record. Many authoritative voices have criticized the journalist, including CBS News Chief Foreign Correspondent Lara Logan.  Appearing on CNN’s “Reliable Sources” program, Logan cast doubt on Hastings’s claim that his interviews with McChrystal and his team were all on-the-record.
