CHINA-JAPAN: BEIJING ASKS TOKYO TO MEET IT HALFWAY

China has asked Japan to take “an honest, concrete” step in order to “meet halfway” to defuse the ongoing crisis. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu further stated that “relations with Japan are extremely important to China”. Tensions rose when a Chinese fishing boat captain was arrested in disputed waters after colliding with coastguard vessels belonging to the Japanese.
