JAPAN: TOKYO ASKS BEIJING FOR EMERGENCY SUMMIT

Japan requests a top-level meeting with China to re-establish bilateral exchanges that have been suspended by Beijing. The Japanese authorities hold in custody the Captain of a fishing boat that was stopped in disputed territorial waters. It is advisable, said Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Sengoku, that the summit be held “as soon as possible”.
