SUBSIDIES FOR COAL INDUSTRY TO END IN 2014

The EU Commission Almunia has proposed to end subsidies for the coal industry by 2014. This would bring forward by 8 years the objective initially established by Brussels. “The objective of this idea is to ensure that all non-competitive mines are closed by October 15th 2014” said the Commissioner. Almunia has, however, guaranteed to support companies most affected by unemployment caused by this decision.
