BULGARIA: ST. JOHN BAPTIST’S REMAINS FOUND ON AN ISLAND

Bulgarian archaeologists announced the finding of St. John the Baptist’s remains in a Black Sea island. According to the BBC Web site, the discovery took place in a 5th century monastery on the Sveti Ivan Island. An alabaster reliquary containing a skull, bone fragments, a hand and a tooth, has been found in the chapel. The precious casque has an inscription that reads 24 June, the saint’s birthday.
